In the name of God Amen, the 15th day of the month of May AD 1492
I, Thomas Skudder of Horton in Rochester diocese, being of sound mind, and good of memory, make my will in this manner.
First I leave my soul to God Almighty etc., and my body to be buried in the Churchyard of the aforesaid parish church of Horton.
Item I leave to the high altar in the same place 20d.
Item I leave one wax candle of eight pounds to burn around the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the same place.
Item another candle of eight pounds around the image of the Blessed Bishop Blaise and the redeeming spirit.
Item I leave to my godson Thomas German one ewe lamb and one lamb.
Item I leave to Robert Skodder one ewe and one lamb.
Item I leave to Thomas Butler my godson one ewe and two lambs.
Item I leave to Thomas, son of Juliana Frith, my godson, one lamb.
Item I leave to Richard Monke my godson one lamb.
Item I leave to John Skudder my kinsman twenty ewes and twenty lambs.
Item I leave to William Petit my kinsman twenty sheep of three years old.
Item I leave to Thomas Costance my godson one lamb.
Item I leave to Joan my wife, for each year during her life, 6s 8d.
Item I leave to Agnes Butler my daughter, one cow of ivory colour, five quarters of barley, two pairs of linen sheets, one pair of new blankets of white cloth, one coverlet of white cloth, two pillows, one hanging, one chicken dish, one gallon cooking pot, one small skellet bowl.
Item I leave to John Skudder my kinsman two horses, ebony and ivory.
Item I leave to William Petitt my kinsman two horse, bay and sorrell.
Item I leave to John Skudder my kinsman, one messuage called Olde Skudders, with garden and one croft adjacent to the same messuage, containing by estimation seven acres of land, and Homefelde, containing five acres of land, and Princes? containing two acres of land, to have and to hold to him and his heirs for ever.
And if there should be no heirs, thereafter I will that they should remain to the next heir of me, the aforesaid Thomas Skudder, as the chief Lord (of the fee) etc.
Item I leave to John Skudder and William Petitt my kinsmen the residue of my household utensils.
The true residue of all my goods unbequeathed, and my chattels, I give and leave to John Skudder my son,
And I ordain, make and constitute the same John my son my well-appointed executor etc.
Given on the day and year above written, in the presence, at the same time in the same place, of Henry German, Walter Dawber, Richard Devy, John Afarde of Eynisforde, John Lese and others.

Item I leave to the parish church of Horton one torch of the value of 6s 8d, and when I am buried, that light to burn during my obsequies, at the month's mind.
Item I make constitute and ordain, Agnes my wife my sole executrix, to dispose of all my goods, moveable and unmoveable, for the good of my soul and those of my ancestors.
Item I leave to my sons, that is to say, Thomas and Robert, after the death of my wife, all my goods, moveable and unmoveable, as common and undivided property, for the heirs male lawfully begotten of their bodies.
And if it should happen that my sons should not have heirs male lawfully begotten of their bodies
Then I will and ordain that Richard and John my sons should succeed to all my goods, moveable and unmoveable, as for the heirs male lawfully begotten of their bodies.
Item I leave to Richard my son 40s if and when the land and all my goods, moveable and unmoveable, may come and remain to the aforesaid Thomas and Robert, after the death of Agnes my wife.

Item I will and ordain that the aforesaid Thomas and Robert may be of service to me and my wife in our lives for the time being.

Item I leave to Margery my daughter, if by chance it should happen that she should wish to marry with the consent of her mother and brothers 20s, or otherwise nothing to go to my daughter, or otherwise she to receive any of my goods.
Item I leave to Alice my daughter on her joining in Marriage 40s.
Item I leave to Joan my younger daughter when she should come to her joining in marriage 46s 8d.
Item I leave to Elizabeth my daughter on her joining in marriage 40s.

In the year of Our Lord God 1508, the 4th of the month of November, in my right and whole mind, nonetheless sick in body, thanked be God in health and in sickness.
First I make my wyll in this manner.
I betake and commend my Soul to Almighty God my maker, and to our blessed Lady Saint Mary, and to all the blessed hallows of heaven.
And my body to be buried in the churchyard of Horton, by my husband beforesaid.
And also I bequeath to the high altar of Our Lady of Horton beforesaid, 12 pence.
And also to St. Andrew of Rochester, to my mother church, 3 pence.
And also I bequeath and will my two sons, Thomas and Robert, according to their father's will.
And I will Robert my son 1 black bullock.
Also to Isabell my daughter, a brass pot and 1 pan and 2 platters and 2 pewter dishes, also 2 ewe sheep.
Also Jone my daughter 1 brass pot and 1 pan and 2 platters and 2 pewter dishes, also 2 ewes.
Also to Agnes Scudder, the daughter of John Scudder, 1 ewe lamb.

Item I bequeith to John my son all my houses and landes being within the parisshe of Horton and Sutton. And I will that he entre and have them at the feaste of Saynte Michael next folowyng.
Item I bequeith to John my sonn all my horses and my carte and all thinges therto belongyng.
Item I will that John Skudder my son paye or cause to be paide to William Skudder my son, whan he comyth to the age of 12 yeris, 40s.
Item I will that John my son pay or cause to be paide to Henry my son, whan he comyth to the age of 12 yeris, 40s.
And yf that ether William or Henry decease within the age of 12 yeris, then eche of them to be other heire.
And yf they deceasse bothe within the saide age, I will that both there partes of the saide money remayne to John my son.
Item I bequeth to William my son 2 ewes and 2 lambes and that they be delyvered to his use at the next sheryng.
Item I bequeith to Henry my son 2 ewes and 2 lambes and that they be delyvered to his use at the next sheryng.

And yf sche be nat truly paide, I will sche shall distrayne in Estefelde.
Item I bequeith to the reparations of Horton Church 6s 8d.
Item I make my executors Alice my wyff and John Skudder my son, And I will they both togidder shall occupie my house and landes with all my corne, catell, and all other of my moveable goodes, to the Feaste of Saynt Michael next folowyng to paye my debtes with and in fulfilling of this my will.

And yf it happen that either of my said daughters Margerett or Joane shall dye withoute heires of their Bodye lawfullie begotten then my will and pleasure is that the aforesaid Messuage or Tenement shall wholly descend unto my daughter surviving and unto the heires of hir body lawfullie begotten.
Item I geve and bequeath unto Marie Scudder my youngest daughter one parcell and peece of Land called and commonlie knowne by the name of Pricles Meade conteyninge by estimation sixe acres more or lesse lyenge within the Parrishe of Sutton at Hone and unto the heires of hir bodie lawfullie begotten. And yf it happen that my said daughter Marye shall dye withoute heires of hir bodye lawfullie begotten Then my will and meaninge is that theforesaid Landes bequeathed to Marye shall descend and come unto Parnell my eldest Daughter and unto the heires of hir bodye lawfullie begotten.

Knowe all men by these presents (whom it may anyway concerne) that I, Henry Scudder of Collingbourne Ducis in the County of Wiltes Minister of the Gospell of Jesus Christ, being in very good health and of sound mind and good of memory (praised be God. Considering my mortality and it is good to mind my latter End and to bee prepared for my death, and to sett my house in order before I dye: I doe here (haveing first revoked all former wills and testaments) make and publish this my last will and testament in manner as followeth.
ffirst I comend my soule to God my heavenly ffather, who of his free grace and exceeding Riches of his love hath redeemed me by the blood of his deare and only sonne Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. And my Body to be buried (when my soule and it shall be severed) at the discretion of my Executors to rest in hope of a blessed Resurrection.
As for my Lands, plate and goods which God of his abundant goodness hath liberally given me (for which I give him hearty thanks) I doe bequeath and give as followeth.
ffirst I give to my daughter Jane Russell, and to the heires of her body lawfully begotten, all my house and lands withall their appurtenances lyeing and being in ffornam Row in the parish of Husband Tarrant in the County of Southampton, and for want of such heires to the right heires of me the above said Henry Scudder.
Item I give to my daughter Martha Jacob and to the heires of her body lawfully begotten all my Lands and tenements, which shall be next mentioned, namely, one house and lands with appurtenances, lyeing in the parish of Horton Kirby in the County of Kent, now in the tennure and occupation of Nicholas Ray, Alsoe one house and lands with the appurtenances lyeing in the parish of Horton p'dict, and one meadow called Prickes Meade, lyeing in the parish of Horton p'dict and Sutton at Hone, all now in the tennure and occupation of Robert Peade sic (Reade), alsoe twoe other houses together with Orchards and Gardens thereto belonging, lyeing at Chappell Greene in the parish of Horton p'dict now lett by Lease unto Nicholas Jinks and for want of such heires to my right heires.
Item I give to my daughter Bridgett Graile for the whole terme of her naturall life my house and lands now in the tennure and occupation of Widow Boomer, or her Assignes with all their appurtenances lyeing and being in South Darant in the parish of Horton aforesaid, also two houses in the Chalkdale, with my lands in the Oxen:downes, now thereunto belonging, now in the tennure and occupation of Mr. William Burkell or his Assignes, also one other house with lands thereunto belonging now in the tennure and occupation of John Chester, all the former and this also, lyeing and being in the parish of Horton aforesaid. All which houses and Lands, with the appurtenances given to the abovesaid Bridgett Grayle for the tennure of her life I give unto Henry Grayle to him and to the heires of his body, lawfully begotten, and for want of such heires to the right heires of the above named Bridgett Grayle for ever.
Item I give to Elizabeth Tombes (the only daughter to my daughter Elizabeth deceased) when she shall fulfill the yeares of one and twenty and to the heires of her body lawfully begotten my house and Landes at Rabbitts with all their appurtenances now in the tennure and occupation of Richard Johnson lyeing and being in the parish of Horton Kirby in the County of Kent aforesaid, also one other house with the Land and appurtenances thereunto belonging, upon Chappell Greene in the parish of Horton aforesaid in the tennure and occupation of Robert Chandler, And for want of such heires to the right heyres of me Henry Scudder. And my will is that untill the said Elizabeth shall fulfill the yeares of one and twenty the said houses and Landes bequeathed to her shall be in the power and at the disposeing of my Executors for the maintenance of the said Elizabeth and towards a portion to be raised for her of the Overplus, not spent in her maintenance, which is to be paid to her by my Executors at the age of one and twenty yeares. And my will is that shee remaine with one of my Executors till shee reach to the age of one and twenty yeares.
Now concerning all the before bequeathed houses and lands be it alwaies provided and my will is that an yearly annuity of twenty pounds a yeare be yearely paid to my loveing wife Joyce Scudder for her life out of all my said lands by my daughters Jane, Martha and Bridgett aforesaid, and by my Granddaughter Elizabeth Tombes by equal proportions, namely five pounds a peece at the first and twentieth of March by Jane and Martha and on the one and twentieth of September five poundes a peece by Bridgett and Elizabeth under this provisoe that my said wife claime noe Third or Dower, according to an obligation she entered into before marriage, which if she anyway claimed, or doe molest my said Children or Grandchild I will that my Executors take advantage of the obligation and shee is to have noe Annuity. Bee it also provided and my will is, that if any reall trouble or encumbrance shall happen to any of the foure before mentioned to whom I have given my landes or to their heires within tenne yeares after my decease soe that they cannot enioy what I have given each of them my will is that the person or persons that peaceably enioy their Legacy shall equally beare a part in the trouble disturbance or losse out of the lands which I have given them. But if their be noe such reall disturbance; my will is that each shall have my Landes and houses as before I did give them. I made this proviso in confidence that my said Children and Grandchild knowing my will, that they will therrefully fulfill it which Charge I lay upon them and their heires to whom I have given my lands aforesaid, as ever they would expect, that God should blesse to them that which I have given unto them.
Item I give to all my Grandchildren vis: the Children of my daughters, Jane, Martha and Bridgett which shall be liveing at my decease twenty poundes a peace, to be delivered to each of their parents to begin staikes for them and to be paid to them with improvement (if any be) when they shall fulfill the age of one and twenty yeares.

Lastly I give all my goods and plate and Chattells unbequeathed unto my three daughters, Jane Russell, Martha Jacob and Bridgett Graile to be equally divided betweene them whom I appoint and make joynt executors of this my last will and Testament. Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Robert Skudder one other Messuage or Tenement at Standstead aforesaid nowe in the Tenure and Occupation of William Bowman or his Assignes with all the Landes to the said Tenemente used and Occupied by the said William Bowman upon the condition that my said sonne Robert pay one Annuite of Eighte Pounds per Ann(um) out of the landes aforesaid according as I have appointed it to be payed unto Susanna Whitinge sometimes the wife of my eldest sonne John Skudder To have and to hould the said Messuage or Tenement and Landes before mentioned (hee payinge the said Annuite) with all and Singular the Appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Robert Skudder my youngest sonne and to his heires for ever.
Item I give unto Thomas Skudder my sonne my Messuage or Tenement in the parish of Ash aforesaid now in the Occupation of Henry (?) with all my Lande, Meadows, Arables, Woodes and pastures thereunto belonging now in the Occupation of the said Thomas Skudder or his Assignes to have and to hould with the Appurtenances to him the said Thomas Skudder my sonne and to his heires for ever.
Item I give and bequeath to the said Thomas Skudder my sonne my Messuage or Tenement att Roger Streete in the parish of Standstead aforesaid, whom I now divest with all the Landes thereunto belongeing now in the Occupation of the said Thomas Skudder to have and to hould with all the Appurtenances to him the said Thomas Skudder and his heires for ever. Admon / with the will and of the goods chattels and credits of William Skudder late of Deptford in the County of Kent Wheelwright deceased left …………..ed by Nancy Eden Skudder Widow the Relict and sole Executrix named in the said Will since deceased was granted Job Skudder one of the natural and lawful children of the said deceased having been first sworn
